The Medal
20/05/2015 19:40The 4 Gs. That's how the four guards were known at he bar they frequented for the past ten years. James,a museum guard,Mat,a court guard,Dan a prison guard, and Kris,a guard in a bank.
They all knew each other since Police Academy and their relationship had turned into male friendship, one in which not a lot is said, but that a lot more is implied. A friendship that hroughout the years had become a constant in their lives, bonded over a glass of beer drank every night at the same bar,at the same table, the 4 Gs table.
A meeting that helped them relax after a strenuous day at work, unwind and let off some steam before heading back home and get redy for another difficult day that was to come. And every night the same lingering question was left hanging in the air,as they got up to leave the bar. Would they all be there the following night?
The same question came to everyone's mind again tonight at the bar,as they gazed at the fourth beer that remained untouched at the 4 Gs table. A medal was placed next to it. The same medal of bravery that Kris's wife,Janet, had received earlier that day for her husband's outstanding performance during a bank robbery that went wrong and left four dead, including Kris, and a lot more injured. Thanks to Kris, the offendes would be brought to justice.
And as the guards got up to leave the bar that night, they had the answer to the ever lingering question. No. They wouldn't all be there the following night.
