The Handshake

Watching the sun rise from the sea instead of catching glimpses of it as it comes out behind tons of concrete was a welcome change for John. And he had been doing just that for the past ten years, ever since he moved to the City to work as a lawyer.

The view combined with the saltness of the air had already put him in a holiday mood, even though he knew he would spend most of his time on the island locked up in an office worrying about legal affairs.

The boat was about to reach the harbour. Penelope had been waiting in the small cafe to pick up the only tenant for the rooms she was renting out through the Internet. It was important for her to have something to keep her busy now that her husband went out to sea again.

She left her mug of half finished coffee on the table and went out in the fragrant, spring air. The few passengers were already coming out of the boat. She looked at the various faces trying to figure out which one could be her tenant. John spotted her first and couldn't take his eyes off of her.He shook her hand and kept it in his a liitle longer than he intended,a lot longer than she would have expected.

Wasn't it too early in spring for them to feel so hot?
