A trip to Siena is a trip back in time,a trip full of emotions, sights and flavours. Seeing Piazza del Campo, the town square, for the first time is an experience you'll be sure to remember. Shaped like a shell,it is surrounded by cafes and restaurants where you can enjoy a tasty Italian  meal along with Tuscany's local wine. Or you can join the rest of the tourists as they sit around the square admiring the Torre del Mangia and the Palazzo Publico. And don't forget to taste some of the best gelato-ice cream- in the world. You'll be sure to find a gelateria in every corner.

Piazza del Campo is also famous for hosting the Palio horse race on 2nd July an 16th August every year. On the day of the Palio, before the race, drummers and flag twirlers, dressed in traditional medieval costumes, lead the horses in a procession around Piazza del Campo. Each contrada-neighbourhood-has its own flag. The winning flag makes an excellent souvenir to take home!

The city's cathedral,Duomo,is another sight that is sure to impress you as it is a beautiful example of Romanesque-Gothic architecture.

One more fine example of Siena's medieval beauty is Piazza Salimbeni where you can find Palazzo Salimbeni and the medieval headquarters of one of the oldest banks in Siena.

And after a day of walking through history trace your steps back to where it all began. Back to Piazza del Campo and treat yourself to a chilled glass of wine or a  gelato as the past meets the present-your beautiful present medieval experience!
